The 25th April marks the anniversary of the Liberation of Italy from fascism - Italian Liberation Day. The North East Volunteers for Liberty working with the Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d'Italia (ANPI UK) will be celebrating this significant anniversary.
The 26th April is the anniversary of the attack on Guernica, when German and Italian planes bombed the defenceless Basque town of Guernica (Gernika in Basque). The atrocity persuaded the Basque government to accelerate their refugee programme, which saw 20,000 basque children evacuated abroad; 4,000 of them to Britain, with 40 of these cared for at Hutton Hall, near Guisborough. It also inspired Picasso's most famous painting, which in turn inspired Abby and Owen when they designed our Stockton International Brigade memorial.
We will hold a brief commemoration to mark these anniversaries in the The Olive Branch: the freshly opened bar and kitchen serving fresh, flavour-packed food alongside great Beers, cocktails, wines, and premium spirits.

Il 25 aprile ricorre l'anniversario della Liberazione dell'Italia dal fascismo - Giornata della Liberazione Italiana. I Volontari per la Libertà del Nord-Est, in collaborazione con l'Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d'Italia (ANPI UK), celebreranno questo importante anniversario.
Il 26 aprile ricorre l'anniversario dell'attacco a Guernica, quando aerei tedeschi e italiani bombardarono l'indifesa città basca di Guernica (Gernika in basco). L'atrocità convinse il governo basco ad accelerare il programma di accoglienza dei rifugiati, che portò all'evacuazione all'estero di 20.000 bambini baschi; 4.000 di loro in Gran Bretagna, e 40 di questi furono accolti a Hutton Hall, vicino a Guisborough. Ha inoltre ispirato il dipinto più famoso di Picasso, che a sua volta ha ispirato Abby e Owen nella progettazione del nostro memoriale della Brigata Internazionale di Stockton.
